From a Tiny Danish Shop to a Global Brand

The story began in 2007, when Johan Bülow opened his first shop in Svaneke on the Danish island of Bornholm. He made the liquorice inside the store so customers could smell it from outside — and on opening day, the entire batch sold out within two hours.

Two years later came the idea that would really define the brand: coating gourmet liquorice in chocolate.

The result was A – THE ORIGINAL, combining sweet liquorice with milk chocolate and a fine layer of liquorice powder. It became the foundation for a range that has since grown far beyond traditional liquorice.

Liquorice, But Probably Not as You Know It
